Sixth Grade at IAH

Greetings,

My name is Mrs. Crystal L. Whitten, however, I prefer to be called Mrs. Crystal. I have the pleasure of teaching fifth and sixth-grade students at IAH. I was born and raised in Connecticut but moved to Alabama 11 years ago for family and college. I am married to a wonderful husband and the mother of three beautiful children. We ‘re a big family with a total of six children between us, keeping our home full of laughs and excitement. My daughter is the oldest, and a junior in high school. I have two sons; my first son is a freshman in high school, and the youngest son is in the eighth grade. I am proud to be the mother of three honor roll students!

Before following my calling to be an educator, I received a B.A. in Telecommunications with a minor in English from Alabama A&M University. While working at WAFF 48 in their news department, I discovered my passion to be a teacher through Appleton Learning,  where I was employed as a lead afterschool teacher for three years. I’ve enjoyed working with the students very much, and for this reason, I decided to go back to Alabama A&M University for my Masters in Elementary Education.

My goal is to provide engaging and exciting learning experiences for the 5th and 6th grade students and to contribute in many ways to the success of Islamic Academy of Huntsville.
